Going into second year is definitely a leap from first year. The work load increases and there is a lot more expected of you. This year is serious and you can feel it. However, with the help of your lecturers and as long as you manage your time well, you will fly through the first term with relative ease. We even found time in between group work in the library to go out for a meal!

One of our many tasks for the first term was to pitch to a live client from Festival Place (a large shopping centre in Basingstoke)! We had to pitch ideas for a campaign to increase the amount of traffic to their website. To gather as much research as we could we made a trip to the shopping centre!

After listening to everyone’s pitches, it was decided that our group had won ‘Best overall pitch’!
I found that to keep on top of things in second year it is important to get things done early. So for example, looking at the reading lists in your unit packs and getting the necessary books from the library, writing out all your deadlines and sticking it on your wall to remind you, and also creating group chats on Facebook with your coursemates helps to settle any questions you have and to organise any extra group work needed. It’s also always useful to attend events put on by your uni as they can introduce you to industry experts and show you what to expect after uni! One event that we attended was the Solent PR Graduate Conference which was great as we met so many successful people and learnt their stories on how they got to where they are today!
It’s definitely hard to keep your motivation all through the term, especially when Christmas approaches and all you want to do is be at home in the warm, relaxing. Just remember how it will feel when you hear that you got a good grade at the end of the term and that all your hard work paid off.
